If I were the last Shakespeare,
My final act will be a soliloquy
About the emerald in your eyes.
I, the bad word in our oxymoron;
You, the word with absurdly
Impossible possibilities.

If I were the last Shakespeare,
I would conjure your elements
In a final scene, words crashing
At your luscious remembrance,
Full of Like’s and be’s
Of indefinite finalities.

If I were the last Shakespeare,
My downfall an imminent end,
I’d exit where your words begin,
Then leave you to muse alone
With analogies and parodies
And sweet-sounding eulogies.

"Like Once I Dreamt"

Don’t go looking for me on foreign margins
Or on sheets of my words
Or even in rooms of desire and indoctrinated love.
Don’t go pursuing me in places unknown
By my fingerprints and dry ink
Or by my visage and scented view.
I have far traveled, my lady;
I have sunk behind the horizon of finding,
Beneath the sea of knowingness,
Beyond the bashful blue moon.
I have found new company and new lands
To warm my aching dreams
Of once being with you.
Don’t travel space and crazy distance
To pursue my trace
In busy airports and forsaken luggage
For I have flown, my darling,
To realms unspotted and never found.
Don’t go turning every stone and every sound
Of uttered syllables to find my voice.
I have abdicated purposeful language
And drank all the spirits of words
From bottomless glasses of boundless oblivion.
Don’t throw on a garment and rush
To discover me in neighborhoods
Of hazy entangled alleys and markets.
I have disappeared, my love;
I am gone; gone beyond return,
Beyond capture or sweet uncovering.
I am now dancing with spiritual company,
With dogwood fairies and prairies
Like once I dreamt I would with you

As long as you can laugh, cry, and fall in love, my words shall always be yours. ;-)

Love,

Nihad

I am happy to announce that “Like Once I Dreamt” is exactly how I envisioned it to be. For those who have ordered autographed copies, I will spend the next few days getting your book mailed to you. You can also purchase a copy of the book from Lulu, and from most major bookstores as well.

I am thrilled at the prospect of finally getting this endeavor to poetry fans in general and my friends in particular. I chuckle at the thought of me sitting at my desk, Sharpie in hand, autographing copies. (I wonder if I should get a pipe and smoking jacket to complete the picture!) It has been a long time coming, and the growing anticipation feels like waiting for a birthday or a favorite holiday.

To say that I am excited at this new page in my life is an understatement. To put this collection together is a dream come true. This project hasn’t been undertaken by myself alone. Friends and family have put their collective “shoulder to the wheel” to bring this to fruition. I will always be indebted.

I was also fortunate to find a graphic artist, Jessica Burroughs, whose work graces my poetry. There is a link to her site on the left, “SiTe 4 Sore Eyes”. Feel free to sign her guestbook.

If you are interested in receiving an autographed book, write to me at Nihad.dweidary@gmail.com. The cost is $14.99 plus $4.05 priority postage (for U.S. orders only)

For those of you who know me, thank you for the encouragement and support during this roller coaster ride.

Love,

Nihad
